Aval Dosa Recipe | Kerala Soft Poha Dosa | Easy Dosa Without Urad Dal

🥞 Aval Dosa Recipe (Kerala-Style Poha Dosa)

✨ Light, soft, and spongy – this Aval Dosa is a Kerala-style dosa made with rice and flattened rice (aval/poha). Perfect for an easy and filling breakfast, served with chutney or sambar.

🥣 Aval Dosa Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raw rice (idli rice or dosa rice)

  • 1 cup aval (flattened rice / poha)

  • ½ cup grated coconut

  • 1 tsp fenugreek seeds (optional, for fermentation)

  • Salt to taste

  • Water as required

Preparation Method:

  1. Soak Ingredients:

    • Wash and soak raw rice with fenugreek seeds for 4–5 hours.

    • Soak aval (poha) separately for 20 minutes before grinding.

  2. Grind the Batter:

    • Grind soaked rice, aval, and coconut together into a smooth batter.

    • Add enough water to get dosa-batter consistency.

  3. Ferment the Batter:

    • Transfer to a bowl, cover, and keep overnight (8–10 hrs) for fermentation.

    • In colder climates, allow more time until batter rises and turns airy.

  4. Make Aval Dosa:

    • Heat a dosa tawa, grease lightly.

    • Pour a ladleful of batter and spread slightly (not too thin).

    • Cook covered on medium flame until golden and soft.

    • No need to flip if cooking covered.

🌟 Serving Suggestion:

Best served hot with coconut chutney, tomato chutney, or sambar.
