Aval Puttu Recipe | Kerala Sweet Poha Puttu with Jaggery & Coconut

🍚 Aval Puttu Recipe (Kerala Beaten Rice Puttu)



✨ Soft, sweet, and wholesome – this Aval Puttu is a Kerala-style puttu made with poha, jaggery, and coconut. A quick, healthy recipe often served with tea during evenings or as a naadan breakfast.


🥣 Aval Puttu Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups aval (poha / beaten rice)

  • ¾ cup grated coconut (fresh)

  • ½ – ¾ cup grated jaggery (adjust to taste)

  • 3–4 cardamom pods (crushed)

  • 2 tbsp ghee

  • 8–10 cashews

  • 8–10 raisins


Preparation Method:

  1. Prepare Aval:

    • Wash aval quickly and drain (don’t soak for long).

    • Keep aside for 10 minutes until soft and fluffy.

  2. Mix with Jaggery & Coconut:

    • In a large bowl, combine softened aval, grated coconut, and grated jaggery.

    • Mix gently using your hands to combine well.

    • Add crushed cardamom for flavor.

  3. Final Touch:

    • Heat ghee, fry cashews and raisins until golden.

    • Add to the aval mixture and mix lightly.

  4. Serve:

    • Traditionally served slightly warm as naadan palaharam or evening snack.
